Description
BAM 7 is a selective small-molecule activator of proapoptotic BAX with reported IC50 of 3.3 µM. It binds the BAX BH3-binding domain and induces BAX oligomerization, pore formation and BAX-dependent cell death without activating related BAK or anti-apoptotic BH3-binding proteins.
BAX activation is a decisive step in mitochondrial apoptosis and tumor suppressor signaling. BAM 7 is relevant for studying direct pharmacological activation of apoptotic effectors and BCL-2 family pathway dependencies.
