Description
Trovafloxacin mesylate is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. By blocking these essential type II topoisomerases, it interferes with bacterial DNA replication and DNA synthesis.
DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV are validated antibacterial targets involved in DNA supercoiling, chromosome segregation and bacterial viability. Trovafloxacin is useful as a reference compound in antibiotic mechanism and resistance studies.
