Description
ATB 346 (Otenaproxesul) is an orally active hydrogen sulfide-releasing cyclooxygenase inhibitor derived from naproxen. It suppresses COX-2 activity, reduces PGE2 levels and inhibits leukocyte infiltration while showing anti-inflammatory efficacy with reduced gastrointestinal toxicity in reported models.
H2S-releasing NSAID pharmacology is used to separate anti-inflammatory COX inhibition from gastrointestinal liability. ATB 346 is useful for studying inflammation, prostaglandin biosynthesis and cytoprotective mechanisms linked to hydrogen sulfide release.
