Description
Valdecoxib (SC-65872) is a potent and highly selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor with weak activity against COX-1. Reported IC50 values are 0.005 µM for COX-2 and 140 µM for COX-1 in human enzyme/whole-blood assay settings.
COX-2 is an inducible enzyme in prostaglandin biosynthesis and a central pharmacological target in inflammation and pain pathways. Valdecoxib is useful as a selective NSAID reference for separating COX-2-driven biology from COX-1 activity.
