Description
SC 236 (SC 58236) is a selective COX-2 inhibitor that shows strong preference for COX-2 over COX-1, with reported IC50 values of 0.01 µM and 17.8 µM respectively. It is an NSAID lead compound for probing inducible prostaglandin synthesis.
COX-2-dependent prostaglandin production is a major mediator of inflammatory responses, pain signaling and tumor-associated inflammation. SC 236 is useful for dissecting COX-2-selective pharmacology in cellular and enzymatic assays.
