Description
Sulbactam sodium is an irreversible β-lactamase inhibitor that protects susceptible β-lactam antibiotics from enzymatic hydrolysis. It binds β-lactamase enzymes and reduces resistance mediated by serine β-lactamase activity.
β-Lactamase production is a major mechanism of bacterial resistance to β-lactam antibiotics. Sulbactam is useful for studying antibiotic potentiation, resistance mechanisms and β-lactamase-dependent antibacterial pharmacology.
