Description
Naloxone hydrochloride is a high-affinity opioid receptor antagonist used as a reference tool for blocking μ-, δ- and κ-opioid receptor signaling. It antagonizes opioid agonist responses without producing opioid receptor activation.
Opioid receptors regulate nociception, reward, respiration, gastrointestinal motility and neuroendocrine signaling. Naloxone is useful for defining opioid receptor involvement in cellular assays, tissue preparations and in vivo pharmacology studies.
