- Soluble in water
- MF: C8H17NO2
- MW: 159.23
Description
Pregabalin (PD144723) is a GABA analogue that binds the α2δ auxiliary subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels rather than acting directly at GABA receptors.
Binding to α2δ subunits reduces excitatory neurotransmitter release in the central nervous system and underlies pregabalin's relevance to neuropathic pain, epilepsy and anxiety-related pharmacology. It is used as a reference ligand for calcium-channel α2δ biology.
Key Features
- α2δ calcium-channel auxiliary subunit ligand
- Does not directly activate GABA receptors
- Reduces presynaptic release of excitatory neurotransmitters
- Clinically relevant CNS pharmacology reference compound
Applications
- Voltage-gated calcium-channel α2δ studies
- Neuropathic pain and neuronal excitability models
- Synaptic neurotransmitter release assays
- CNS drug-mechanism research
