Description
CP-31398 is a putative stabilizer and reactivator of wild-type and mutant p53. In cellular models it can increase p53 pathway output, induce p53-responsive genes and promote apoptosis.
Mechanistic studies have produced conflicting results: direct stabilization of the isolated p53 core domain has not been consistently reproduced, and CP-31398 can intercalate into DNA and produce p53-independent effects. It is therefore best used as a p53-pathway modulator with direct DNA-binding, p53-status and genetic control experiments.
