NSC 348884
- Moderately soluble in DMSO
- MF: C38H40N10
- MW: 636.79
Description
NSC 348884 is a putative nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) inhibitor originally reported to disrupt NPM oligomerization, increase p53 signaling and induce apoptosis.
NSC 348884 is used in NPM1 and nucleolar-stress research, but later studies have questioned whether its cytotoxicity is directly caused by inhibition of NPM oligomer formation. It should therefore be treated as a phenotypic probe with mechanism-validation controls.
Key Features
- Reported inhibitor of NPM1 oligomerization
- Induces p53-associated apoptotic responses
- Produces antiproliferative effects in cancer-cell models
- Mechanism should be confirmed with orthogonal approaches
Applications
- NPM1 and nucleolar-stress research
- p53 pathway and apoptosis studies
- Cancer-cell proliferation assays
- Mechanism-of-action validation experiments
