Description
Modafinil is a wake-promoting eugeroic compound with CNS stimulant properties and pharmacological effects linked to dopamine transporter inhibition and catecholaminergic arousal pathways.
Modafinil is used to study wakefulness, attention and arousal circuitry, including dopaminergic, noradrenergic, histaminergic and orexin/hypocretin-associated systems. It is a useful reference compound in sleep-wake and CNS stimulant pharmacology.
