Description
Alda 1 is a small-molecule activator of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2). It enhances acetaldehyde metabolism by wild-type ALDH2 and can restore activity of the inactive ALDH2*2 variant in reported studies.
ALDH2 detoxifies reactive aldehydes generated from alcohol metabolism and oxidative stress, influencing cardiovascular injury, ischemia-reperfusion damage and mitochondrial aldehyde burden. Alda 1 is useful for studying ALDH2 activation and aldehyde detoxification pathways.
