- Soluble in DMSO
- MF: C33H34FN2O5.0.5Ca
- MW: 577.67
Description
Atorvastatin calcium is a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor in the statin class. It suppresses cholesterol biosynthesis through the mevalonate pathway and is used to investigate lipid-lowering and pleiotropic statin pharmacology.
HMG-CoA reductase is the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis and a central cardiovascular drug target. Atorvastatin is useful for studying cholesterol metabolism, lipoprotein regulation, endothelial signaling and mevalonate pathway biology.
Key Features
- Statin-class HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor
- Targets cholesterol biosynthesis through the mevalonate pathway
- Relevant to LDL cholesterol and lipid metabolism research
- Useful tool for cardiovascular pharmacology
Applications
- HMG-CoA reductase assays
- Cholesterol biosynthesis studies
- Cardiovascular disease models
- Mevalonate pathway research
