Description
NS1619 is a commonly used opener of large-conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels (BK/KCa1.1). It increases BK-channel activity and membrane potassium conductance, but also exerts channel-independent effects on mitochondrial respiration and membrane potential at micromolar concentrations.
NS1619 decreases mitochondrial membrane potential with a reported EC50 value of 3.6 µM and inhibits proliferation of A2780 cells with an IC50 value of 31.1 µM. It is useful for BK-channel and mitochondrial studies when electrophysiological verification and off-target controls are included.
