Description
Bupropion hydrochloride is a norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor that also acts as a non-competitive antagonist at several neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
Bupropion increases catecholaminergic neurotransmission by inhibiting NET and DAT and reduces nicotinic receptor signaling associated with nicotine reinforcement. It is a clinically established reference for antidepressant and smoking-cessation pharmacology.
Key Features
- Norepinephrine–dopamine reuptake inhibitor
- Non-competitive neuronal nicotinic receptor antagonist
- Enhances catecholaminergic neurotransmission
- Clinically validated antidepressant and smoking-cessation pharmacology
Applications
- DAT and NET uptake assays
- Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor studies
- Depression and monoamine-signaling models
- Nicotine dependence and reward-pathway research
