Description
Ciclesonide is an inhaled glucocorticoid prodrug that is converted in the lung to an active metabolite with high affinity for the glucocorticoid receptor.
Activated ciclesonide suppresses NF-κB- and AP-1-dependent inflammatory gene expression, reducing cytokine production, airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness. It is a clinically relevant tool for corticosteroid activation and pulmonary anti-inflammatory pharmacology.
