Agomelatine
- Soluble in DMSO
- MF: C15H17NO2
- MW: 243.3
Description
Agomelatine is a dual MT1/MT2 melatonin receptor agonist and 5-HT2C serotonin receptor antagonist. This combined pharmacology couples circadian receptor activation with disinhibition of cortical noradrenaline and dopamine release.
Agomelatine is an antidepressant reference compound used to study interactions between melatonergic timing signals and monoaminergic neurotransmission. It is particularly relevant to circadian rhythm, sleep–wake regulation, mood circuitry and 5-HT2C receptor pharmacology.
Key Features
- MT1 and MT2 melatonin receptor agonist
- 5-HT2C serotonin receptor antagonist
- Integrates circadian and monoaminergic pharmacology
- Clinically validated antidepressant mechanism
Applications
- Melatonin receptor pharmacology
- Circadian rhythm and sleep–wake research
- 5-HT2C-dependent monoamine release studies
- Mood-disorder and antidepressant mechanism models
