Description

SC 26196 is a selective Δ6-desaturase inhibitor with an in vitro IC50 value of 0.2 µM and more than 100-fold selectivity over Δ5- and Δ9-desaturases. It inhibits an enzyme required for production of arachidonic-acid precursors.

Δ6-desaturase regulates polyunsaturated fatty-acid metabolism and lipid mediator biosynthesis. SC 26196 is useful for studying the connection between fatty-acid desaturation, eicosanoid production, inflammation and metabolic regulation.
