Digoxin

Description

Digoxin is a successful medication in the treatment of irregular heart rhythms, namely atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter and sometimes heart failure that cannot be controlled by other medication.
Digoxin is also used as a standard control substance to test for p-glycoprotein inhibition. Recent studies show that digoxin acts as inhibitor of HIF-1α synthesis, reduces protein levels and thus slows tumor growth in mice.

Digoxigenin bisdigitoxoside (Axon 1695) is also available as a metabolite of Digoxin.

Na+/K+ ATPase pump inhibitor
