Oxygenases (subclass of oxidoreductases; EC 1.) are enzymes that incorporate oxygen atoms from O2 into the oxidized products. Dioxygenases are uncommon enzymes that incorporate both atoms of O2 into one substrate. Besides the large family of cytochrome P450-related (CYP) enzymes, this class of oxidoreductases also includes the well-known family of cyclooxygenases (COX, officially known as prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase (PTGS))[1], but also histone demethylases (JMJD), desaturases and aromatases, and many others.
