ATPase

ATPases are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and a free phosphate ion. This reaction leads to the release of energy which is used in the cell. This process is essential for all living creatures. Transmembrane ATPases import many of the metabolites necessary for cell metabolism and export toxins, wastes, and solutes that can hinder cellular processes.
