AdipoR1

Adiponectin is an adipokine with anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing properties. Clinically, circulating levels of adiponectin are reduced in obesity and type II diabetes, whereas weight loss elevates serum adiponectin. Candidate adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2, were initially identified by expression cloning and reported to mediate the insulin-sensitizing actions of adiponectin. These proteins are predicted to have seven transmembrane domains with the opposite topology of GPCRs. Both AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 are reported to be ubiquitously expressed with the highest expression in skeletal muscle and liver, respectively. In addition to its metabolic role, adiponectin has been shown to be associated with various clinical cardiovascular disorders including myocardial infarction, peripheral artery disease, and endothelial dysfunction[1].
