Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) of the ω3- and ω6-series are essential for a number of cellular functions such as maintaining membrane fluidity, providing substrates for eicosanoid signaling, modification of ion channels and regulation of gene expression. In view of that, these fatty acids are involved in several such basic cellular mechanisms, it is not surprising that they influence a number of physiological processes and have been implicated in such diverse conditions as cardiovascular diseaseinflammatory diseasesosteoporosis and depression[1]. Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1; EC 1.14.19.1) is one of these fatty acid converting enzymes, responsible for forming a double bond in Stearoyl-CoA..
